About Piedmontese Cattle and Beef |
|||||
| Breed Origin:
The Piedmontese cattle originated in the Piedmont region of North-West Italy, a secluded pocket, naturally protected by the Alps mountains. This breed has been around for some 25,000 years when the Zebu and Auroch cattle combined and evolved to become the Piedmontese Breed. Because of the "hypertrophic or double muscling " of the Piedmontese cattle today, they have a higher dressing percentage and cutability or tenderness than any other breed. Piedmontese have been successfully cross-bred with many beef and dairy breeds with no efficiency loss in growth rates and in some cases producing efficiency in gain while improving the carcass dressing percentage. Nutrition Information: The Piedmontese beef is nutrient rich, low in fat, cholesterol, and calories. Beef is an excellent source of dietary iron, zinc, and protein. The American Heart Association recommends 300 milligrams of dietary cholesterol per day. F1-Piedmontese beef has less than 21% of this daily allowance. |
